Southwark Council Case Study

23 October 2012

Utilising CERT funding from British Gas

Value £1.8m - completed in 2012

Working directly with The London Borough of Southwark, Avalon Sustainable Energy Solutions delivered Cavity Wall Insulation to 2408 flats, across 59 tower blocks via rope access. Using our knowledge and experience, we helped the client identify the suitability of their high rise stock by sending our surveying team out free of charge to undertake a simple stock survey which could be used to identify a list of blocks that would benefit from CWI.

Once the list of suitable blocks were determined we then developed a project delivery program and instructed our in-house health and safety team to carry out site specific inspections that would enable them to produce appropriate method and risk assessments for each block.

This would determine not only the equipment required to rig and access each block but also key holder details, positioning of welfare facilities, parking and highlighting any possible risks to public or staff where restricted access is an issue, this document would also then be incorporated into daily tool-box briefings.

The project was delivered ahead of schedule and on budget without any incidents or accidents.
